Windows Explorer can't find drives

I just did a complete WinXP install with all updates and SPs (AMD64 3500
2.5GB RAM GeForce7300 256 RAM) and, suddenly, after Windows Media Format
launched, Windows Explorer took a lot of time to see the drives ... I hate
that flashlight icon. It's as if the MFT was corrupted or something. I did
a Sys Restore back before WMF launched but the slow-down continues. Any
ideas??

Thanks

did you reinstall the motherboard drivers ?

Stop the WIA service. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
3. Double-click Component Services.
4. Click Services.
5. In the Services (Local) list, right-click Windows Image Acquisition
(WIA), and then click Stop

Thanks for the response. I had just built the PC with a new
motherboard/CPU/etc. and installed all of the motherboard drivers. After
reading my question, I realized that I didn't explain that the error occurred
after I tried to stop the Windows CD Burner in favor of InCD while trying to
back up some Quicken data.

I appreciate the response. I forgot to explain that the error may have
occurred after I tried to stop Windows CD burner in favor of InCD while
backing up Quicken data. If the Windows Media Format is involved in CD
burning, that may be the problem.

Also, the WIA seems to be used for scanners and cameras ... is it also used
for burning CDs? And, should I stop the process in general unless I'm
scanning or uploading photos?

Thanks, again.
