Windows explorer and IE problem

Windows explorer and IE no longer open on WIN2K computer.
IE - no response
Windows Explorer - show desktop background for 2-3 secs,
then desktop re-appears.
All other apps run fine
Any suggestions appreciated
 
I don't know if this is quite the same problem, but I found out there is an
incompatability with some apps that can cause Windows Explorer to close with
an error intermittantly. The fix was to roll back to IE 5.5 from 6. I have
never been able to pinpoint what I have on my machine that causes this
issue, when other machines here run IE 6 and Windows Explorer with no
problems.

Yours sounds a little more serious, but....
