I updated Microsoft Transcriber on my Pocket PC when I got it a while ago;
now every time I turn on my Win XP Home PC there is a Windows Explorer
window open to C:\Programs Files\Microsoft and the file in the window is
Microsoft Transcriber.exe.

I have looked through the registry, and in MSConfig, and in the Start Menu
and can't for the life of me find out where it tells the PC to open this
particular folder in Explorer whenever the PC boots up. I have even taken
the check off most programs in startup but this window still opens.

It opens for all users when they log onto on the Windows XP Home machine.

There is also a machine at work that opens for all users to Windows\System32
when they log on. This machine runs Windows 2000 Pro.

This is really annoying - any ideas on how to stop this?

Thanks,
Mich

Hi Mich,

You said you checked the registry, but didn't say where....For some reason
installs get left in RunOnce. Check all keys listed.

If listed below, double click the entry and put the full path name in
quotes. And Verify that all the values in these keys do not contain any
incorrect, incomplete, or null entries (such as "").

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
