I'm desperate. I'm at college and the Tech people won't
help me with this one.

I turned my computer, but when I put my password into
windows (I am the only user, but have password-protected
it for security.), Windows responded with ""Windows cannot
load the user's profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system. DETAIL - The system has
attempted to load or restore a file into the registry, but
the specified file is not in a registry file format."

What is going on? The tech people suggested I use the
Windows restore CDs, but I do not have them with me and I
would have to have them sent to me.

Please help! Very desperate!

This sounds to me like a corrupt profile. Yes, it does
happen in all versions of Windows. I suggest logging onto
whatever default it allows and create a new profile for
yourself, then copy My Documents and My Favorites and
Desktop from the old profile to the new one.
