Hi All,

I don't think this is the correct ng for this question but I can't find
one for defender.
My query is that since yesterday I have been bugged by windows update
keep telling me that there is an updated set of definitions and do I
want to download/install them. I have installed the update probably
around 5 times and it still appears.
Anybody have any way to stop this?

TIA

Tony

Yeah, uninstall Defender. It's in BETA, not a final version and if
you're not a BETA tester, you have no business installing a BETA product
on your machine. Your experience with the updates proves this out. There
are plenty of free applications that are final releases you can use like
Spywareblaster, Spywareguard, Spybot, Search and Destroy, CWShredder and
AdAware SE.

Of those 'free' programs listed, which one's contain a realtime-time
protection engine that is constantly running and providing _some_ type of
protection at all times ?

Spywareblaster, Spybot and Spywareguard all have that feature. None are
in the BETA stage. All are final releases. All of them are free.

Forgot this....And I have never seen SpyBot's TeaTimer warn of anything.

What? I get warnings all the time of file replacements. As for warning
about Spyware installation attempts, I haven't seen a warning either,
but that's because I know how to stay away from sites and programs that
install known malware.

Only use BETA products in a dedicated testing computer environment.

Try this workaround:

1. Remove the current signature file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type
Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
and then click OK.
2. Open Windows Defender. To do this, click Start, click Programs,
and then click Windows Defender.
3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options arrow next
to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender, and
then click Check for Updates.
