Windows could not start because file is missing or corrupt NTFS.sy

I get the error msg at startup and have followed the directions of the KB
article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822800


no help from this fix. anyone else have a fix without totally rebuilding it
from scratch?

Maybe you could have a try with System File Checker? Have a read of
this link where the background and reasoning is explained:

You *will* need an XP installation CD slipstreamed with the service
pack installed to your system -- which I hope is SP2.

The model is a Dell Latitude laptop. The XP Professional CD is the os
installed on it with SP2. I had the problem occur just once and that is why
now I get the message and can't get it to start windows. I have tried last
known config boot option and have tried the recovery of copying the ntfs.sys
from my install cd to the c:\windows\system32\drivers directory replacing the
existing ntfs.sys with no luck.
