After reading a few of these posts and replying to one
myself, I am getting that feeling that something isnt
right. Buy a Pc/Laptop and get a recovery disk with the
OS image and drivers with that personal branding! I think
the company that make your machine stamp your drive with
unremovable files that conflict with programs that you
add yourself. Or is it spyware? I am having problems at
the moment with fatal errors and doing partial uninstalls
itself. Trying to format the drive is an on going pain,
after ringing Pc World, Toshiba and Microsoft I am still
feeling lost. I thought I got around the MS/DOS not
recognising NTFS by using 98se boot floppy, deleted
partition in FDISK and did format, I was getting excited.
Got rid of non dos partition and loaded new OS from Cd.
Happy day, until I checked my properties and found my 2.6
processor had become 1.3. The space that was taken on my
drive was too much just for one OS and got alot more
fatal errors. So banged in recovery disk again and
decided to put up with it for now. Feel free to comment
of offer assistance please!

Not really sure just what your specific problem is. If you can describe
the issue, the Windows gurus who patrol this newsgroup can usually solve it.

Windows 98se still can't read NTFS partitions, though FDISK should be able
to recognise them as NON-DOS partitions, and delete them at very least.

Call me crazy, but I've always figured that the best tools for the job are
the ones that come with the product - the Windows XP CD is bootable, and
allows the user to format the computer's hard drive from within setup. Now,
FDISK *should* work, but since you're having these odd problems, I would
recommend using the XP CD and never looking back.

To boot from the CD, you may need to make some changes in your system's BIOS
to make the CD-ROM drive a boot device. The CD-ROM drive should be listed
before the hard drive in the boot order.

If you're having problems getting into BIOS, check here
(http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm), consult your
computer's documentation, or check with your PC's manufacturer for
assistance.
