Windows CD writng problem

I have a P4 and am running Win XP Pro. The cd writing software in
Windows used to work. Tthe program stops at "performing the final
steps to make the cd ready to use." It stops when it reaches 5
seconds left. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

I've fixed a lot of CD writing problems by using a CD lens cleaner. The one
I use is a CD, with a small brush built into it.

I hope this helps more then the "Google for an alternative" suggestion. :)
