Windows can't search for updates

I get an error message : 0800B0100.

I tried to contact MS but did not got an answer that solves my problem.

I tried to install SP1 in save mode as administrator but at the end the
installation fails with an "helpfull" message : look at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=10139.
There I've found a list of 8 (?) point to verify or to do, I did them all
but no succes either.
On the net i've found an fix (wufixvista11) but that did not solved the
problem either.

So i'm still stucked with the message that Windows cannot search for updates.
Who can help ?

Do you mean this Administrator account, because that's the only one on
Vista that has full admin rights at all times? Your user/admin account
you got out the box on Vista is not a user/admin account that has full
rights. Any new user/admin accounts that you will create will not be a
user/admin account with full rights either. There is only one admin
account that has full admin rights, Administrator.

You should try going into safe mode using Administrator and see what
happens.

Is there a difference between logging in as administrator and running a
program, and right-clicking and run as administrator ?
Otherwise, i do not believe this has something to do with my problem...
In normal circumstances you will be logged on as a user, not as an
(full)administrator, and that user should be able to do his Windows-updates,
isn't it ?

It's clear that i'm not the only one with this problem, but i cannot find a
solution.

Who has the key ?

Try clicking Start, then in the search box type "windowsupdate.log" without
the quotes, and look through it and see if there are any errors on any other
updates. If you find an update that failed, go to microsofts site and
download that particular update manually, then install it and try again.

Yes there is a difference. The Run as Administrator only last for the moment
of privileged escalation, and the user admin is returned to a Standard user.

The link explains the situation when the built-in Administrator account has
the full admin rights power as opposed to your user/admin out of the box
that doesn't have full rights, even a new one you might create.

I don't think you can install anything on Vista unless you're Admin or a
Power-user. Power-user is there for backwards compatibilty.
It's clear that i'm not the only one with this problem, but i cannot find

Now, if you do the *scan* like I finally got another poster to do in
Vista.General after repeated attempts to get the OP to do the scan in the
link as he couldn't do Windows Updates either, you might find that your
system has corrupted system files.

To view the log, you might have to disable UAC, because of the access denied
that you wouldn't get by using the Administrator account, even with UAC
enabled.
 
I mailed about 2 weeks with MS and finaly the solution was an inplace upgrade
of Vista.
So simply put the Vista-DVD in en reinstall. All your programs and data
remain on your computer... afterwards (you need a lot of time) updates are
possible again.
