When I try to log onto Windows XP, I immediately recieve
the logon message: "the system cannot log you on now
because the domain <computername> is not available." I
looked on the knowlege database and can only find support
for this problem on Windows 2000 os. (article 244671) and
even if the solutions are the same, I don't know how to
do what it says I need to do in order to fix the problem.
If anyone knows what I should do or has any ideas, let me
know. Thanks

Hi, Nicholas. Unfortunately, you haven't given us enough information to
help you. *Is* your computer on a domain? If it is, contact your IT
Dept. because either the domain controller *is* having a problem or
your computer is not properly authenticating. If your computer is *not*
part of a domain and is just a home computer, I don't see how it could
have accidentally gotten set to a domain. Please repost with a better
description of your computer and network setup.

It may well be a computer taken from the office and moved to a
location where it is no longer hooked up to the Domain.

This is kind of like an anti-theft thing, sort of. Since a thief
can't logon to the box outside the Domain, it doesn't work for them.
Unfortunately, it's easy to defeat by simply dropping in a copy of XP
and reinstalling by deleting the partition and reformatting.
