I have accidently deleted the version of my calendar that I use every day. I
cannot find the deleted version anywhere. Does anyone know how I can
undelete or restore my calendar?

Hi,
What do you mean by 'deleted the version of my calendar' ?
You deleted folder or application from: C:\Program Files\Windows Calendar ?
You deleted settings from: C:\Users\Marcin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Calendar ?

Did you check recycle bin ?

Marcin Domaslawski

I mean that I could set up a number of calendars in Windows Calendar - but in
fact I only have set up one, that I use for everything. I have deleted this
one!
I could set up a new calendar amd might have to if this one cannot be
recovered, but I would much prefer not to have to to this.
It's not in my recycle bin and I have searched the computer and can't find
it. It seems odd that I could have so easily deleted it and there is no
obvious way of recovering it.

Hi again,

All user's calendars are stored in Calendars folder at
C:\Users\[User_name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Calendar\.

Go there and:
- right button on Calendars and properties,
- Previous Versions tab
- select version before accident
Here you can try restore if you can't any data in existing calendar.

Marcin Domaslawski

Thanks ever so much Marcin - but having got into the folder I only have 4
tabs - general, sharing, security and customise. I have tried system retsore
but that doesn't do it.
I think I am now resigned to entering everythign afresh into my calendar.
I'm surprised that I was able to delete everything on one click, everything
else on Vista asks you at least twice so my errors are rare!

I appreciate your help

Sue,
Unfortunately 'previous versions' does not apply to Vista Home versions,
only business and ultimate. You didn't specify your system but that is
probably why you cannot find the tab.

Interestingly on my system (Vista Home Premium) I CANNOT delete the last
calendar. If I add a calendar then I can delete the original (at least the
option is offered, I did not actually do it). Also it requires me to
acknowledge the delete with a warning box.

Are you sure you actually deleted it, perhaps you just unchecked it (that
does not require a confirmation warning on my machine)?

Also for reference, the calendar files are of type *.ics, under .../Windows
Calendar/Calendars you can try looking for anything with that extension.
(another good example for soapbox about backups. but you are probably not in
the mode for that).

Sounds like you are hosed however, bummer.

Hi,

Right Shadow Copy (Previous versions) works only in Business, Ultimate and
Enterprise Vista versions. If your calendar is much important to you you can
check an data recovery software e.g. Active@ UNDELETE - Data Recovery
Software or Easy Recovery ...

PS. with Vista you have to be careful 2x more ;-)

Hi Sue,

download "Recuva" at http://www.recuva.com/

If possible, install it on another partition than the one with vista on it
(so you don't overwrite the deleted calender-file).

With it you can un-delete deleted files. Chances are getting worse over time
to retrieve your data, but just give it a try.

Let Recuva scan your Vista-System-Drive (usually "C:") and then type ".ics"
in the "Find"-field to find any calender-file.

If you are successful: save it (e.g. to desktop), open calender, and import
the saved calender-file (File --> Import).

Sorry for my bad english,
Tom

Binka,

Many thanks for this, it is very helpful. I have now spent the best part of
today reloading my appointments as far as I can recall so I think I will
simply accept that I have lost the original. I will keep your advice though
as it may come in useful for the future. Your english is absolutely fine by
the way!!
all the best and thanks again
Sue

I really apprecaite your help Marcin. I have given up now and loaded as much
as I can recall onto a new calendar. I am much wiser now though and will be
more careful in the future with this.
Thanks again

Michael,

Thanks - hosed is I think the right word for it!! I wonder now how I
deleted it so easily - I simply highlighted the calendar and then clicked on
the red cross at the top - and it went! I thought I was deleting a calendar
entry (stupidly!). Thanks anyway for getting back to me. I will be much more
carefyl with this in the future!

Sue, you're not the only one who has deleted your calendar with one click on
the Vista home version... it sucks!
