This morning I started my computer, and something really weird happened. A blue screen appeared with the Windows XP logo at the top and began automatically running some sort of program, that looked like "CHKDSK." I was not given an option to close the program. It reported to me that it was deleting bunches of files, and it did so in three different phases. Most of the files deleted were "index" files followed by numbers. For example, it would say "deleting index file 179" or some such. As I said, it deleted a BUNCH of files
Immediately after it tried to start windows, but instead of my usual login screen, all I got was an all black screen with pointer (which my mouse can still move around the screen). I tried shutting down and restarting in a variety of different windows modes ("last successful" "safe" and "normal" modes), all of which boot to this blank black screen. What can I do to restore my computer?
