I have a back up of my system and after an upgrade I wanted to restore one
particular drive. When I try to restore with the Windows Restore I receive a
message that no BackUp images were found. I have a directory on my USB drive
called WindowsImageBackUp and I can see the drive in one of the
subdirectories.

Any input is appreciated.

TIA, Armin

Hi Armin,

The backup and recovery functionality in Vista is at best poor. Unlike the
old system, if you do a complete PC backup you cannot restore individual
files.... whats more , if you do a file backup, (where you can restore
individual files) it will not backup program files and other key data. I have
fallen victim to this earlier this year. I do have a suggestion though, which
helped me out of my problem. Download "winimage"
http://www.winimage.com/winimage.htm which will alow you to mount the vmdk
file that Vista backup created, you can then restore files from this image.
The download is a free 30 day trial. After that i would suggest a 3rd part
backup program. I have tried a few, nova backup seems quite good, although it
doesn't support other backup formats. Hope this is useful.

All the best.

Hi Ben,

Thank you for this great tip. Your suggestion was a great help. It worked
and I reinstalled my dedicated data drive with WinImage. I normally use
TrueImage, but that back up was one month old, from now on I will use
TrueImage exclusively.

Thank you, Armin
