windows automatic updates

when my father does the automatic updates and restarts
the pc his taskbar and start menu turns black. is this a
common problem and can it be fixed without doing the
system restore. any help would be appreciated. thank you

No, this is not a common problem. But I'm confused. Does this happen
every time he does an update? If yes, then for each time after the
first time, what did he do to make the problem go away so that on the
next automatic update it goes back to black?

Or, is this problem related to a particular update?

Is the video driver in use current?
