I'm administrator of a small business network (30pcs).
We have bene using windows automatic update with some
success. The system failed recently. The last successful
automatic update was 12 September. I know from the web
others are having similar problems. I have used the MS
troubleshooter and other fixes (renaming catroot2, etc)
but to no avail. Updates work fine from windowsupdate
site, just the automation that fails.
I know MSBlaster targeted WindowsUpdate service and
presume there has been work to secure the service. Is
this just a coincidence?
Any clues?

Thanks in advance,
Neil.

TO ENABLE WINDOWS AUTO UPDATE

Start|run|regedit|enter|HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE|SOFTWARE|Policies|Microsoft|Windo
ws|WindowsUpdate|

AU|NoAutoUpdate|Data should be 0| Restart Computer for change to take efect.

You could try uninstalling one of the less
hazardous (to be without) patches.

Thanks for this info,
I have reconfigured a pc to test.
Is there any (safe) way of testing Auto Update without
waiting for the next critical patch?
I suspect not.
Thanks again,
Neil.
