Hi! My windows update running on WinXP stopped at 5%. Whenever i restart my
pc the windows update icon(the one with the shield) is always shown on the
system tray. How do i make it work again? Thanks.

At first i'm not able to update from the microsoft website as well. So i
tried to clear the data and update folder in %win%\softwaredistribution. I'm
able to update from the microsoft website now, but i noticed that the windows
update shield in the system tray doesn't appear there anymore. I'm not sure
will the auto udate is still working. Is there anyway that i can verified
that?

Thanks.

If you've updated manually from Windows Update, and there are no more
updates for your system at this time, then the shield won't be present.
Generally updates are put out once a month on the second Tuesday. You
really don't need Automatic Updates enabled. Just go to the update site
once a month.

Never get driver updates from Windows Update. That's why it's a good idea
to know what updates are being installed before you choose to let them be
installed. The system doesn't always need everything that comes down.
