Windows Audio service does not start

I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop. It has been working fine for about
a year but lately the Windows Audio service does not start up when the
machine is rebooted. Sometimes it fails with an exception, but other
times it just does not start up at all. Because it fails, the HID
service also fails to start, and sometime it causes the Themes service
to fail to start, but again this is spotty.

But, when I go in and start these services manually, they work fine.

I'm a .NET developer, so I am willing to play around with the settings
and such if anyone has any ideas. I did not see anything good on
Dell's site, but if this is a Dell-specific problem, then I will take
it there too.

Hello,

My name is Richard; I am part of the Dell Online Community Outreach
group. Your question is interesting, in that the services can manually
be turned on even when they fail at startup. This basically tells us
that your hardware is working, but something in the Windows startup
files is not.

Check and see how many processes are running in the background? If it
is more then 34 then you may want to take a chooser look at those
processes. There could be something there that is not supposed to be,
or you do not need or want.

You stated that you were a .NET developer, but you should not have to
start changing setting and getting that technical unless you have some
beta items running on the system. In almost all cases if a driver
fails to load properly then there is some kind of software conflict and
uninstalling a driver or utility and reinstalling them can sometimes
correct that.

Keep in mind to locate the software/driver conflict, is a process of
elimination which will take time.
