Dustin

I purschased the retail upgrade version of Windows XP
Home to install on a Compaq notebook computer that was
running Windows Me. The system ran XP Home fine. I
recently aquired another computer and moved XP Home over
to the new computer and removed XP from my Compaq laptop.
It installed fine on the new computer but when i went to
activate it, it said something like "Acording to our
records, you have activated Windows too many times". It
would not let me reqister with my current key code and
Microsoft wanted me to buy another key code. Im not
buying another. But I dont see why it wont let me
activate it on my new computer, when its the only one my
copy of XP is on. I did what it said, that if i was
moving XP to a new computer, i just needed to delete it
from the old one.

Yes, this is deliberately worded to try trick unsuspecting and/or naive
consumers into buying another copy of XP that they really don't need!

Did you try the phone activation option?

"Trustworthy Computing" is only another example of an Oxymoron!
"Produkt-Aktivierung macht frei!"

Dustin,

You can call the 800 number for the activation center and they will be able
to assist you. The number should be listed in the activation UI after you
select a country so that an appropriate phone number can be offered.
