I recently re-installed WinXP and keep getting prompted that I only have so many days to activate windows, but when I click on the "activate windows" button, it says that it is already activated. Then it closes the window. This happens everytime I start it up. Any suggestions?

Greetings --

It may be that your activation has become "unregistered." Try
this solution, posted by Carey Frisch, MS-MVP:

Possible Resolution:

Boot into "Safe Mode" by pressing (F8) during a reboot.

Go to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 regwizc.dll , and hit enter.
Then go again to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 licdll.dll , and
hit enter again.

Hi Zach,

Start/run regsvr32 regwizc.dll
Then start/run regsvr32 licdll.dll

If this doesn't help try these steps:

Start the computer in Safe mode by hitting F8 at bootup. Start/run regedit.
Delete the following keys:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

Exit the registry editor, restart normally.

I am having the same problem. I tried to start in safe mode, but when I get
into safe modeI cannot see the option for run. The screen will not allow me
to scroll down to that option.

I tried entering the lines below in regular mode (start run...) and they
worked, but as soon as I reboot, I have to activate again. This is EVERY
time I reboot.

HELP!

I read something about spyware may be causing this??? I have SpySweeper,
should I do something with that too?

Try scanning with Search & Destroy http://security.kolla.de/
excellent program for spyware and other kinds of software that shouldnt be
on your pc.

Plus I would suggest you do a diagnosic start up and see if you get the
same activation:

Start menu - Run - (type in) msconfig - click ok - (select) Diagnostic
Startup - click ok

If you get the activation again it means that its with Windows XP. But if
you
get nothing, then it means its some software thats starting up in your
normal mode.
