I purchased a new Dell Dimension 8300. I set up and
started the system. Upon intital boot, I was given the
option to skip activation for my Windows XP Professional
and activate it later. I chose to skip it at the time
because I was not connected to my internet server at the
time. Later, following the user manual instructions for
activating Windows (which are go to START>ALL
PROGRAMS>ACTIVATE WINDOWS <click> and follow the wizard's
instructions) I found no "Activate Windows". MS Knowledge
Base says it should be in System Tools, but it's not
there on my machine. I found the "Activate Product" for
MS Office SB in it's relative location and activated it
successfully, but this does nothing for activating
Windows. I have also successfully registered my Win XP
Pro. I have searched Windows Explorer for a wizard that
might run the Activate Windows program, but only find
bits and pieces of its .ocx, .html, etc but no execution
application for it. The MS Knowledge Base indicates I can
activate my Windows via a phone number to be found in the
Windows Activation Wizard, but if I can't find the
Wizard, I don't have access to the phone number. Does
anyone know the phone number I should call for MS
products purchased in Texas? or, how I can activate my
Windows XP Pro product. I'd like to do it on-line if
possible. Thank you all.

You can open the Windows Product Activation wizard by clicking Start, then Run, and type in: oobe/msoobe /a , and hit enter.

Many Dell computers do not require Product Activation since the Windows XP
CD is bios-locked to your Dell computer.

Nicholas,
I notice you're from DELL!! I've been trying to get
someone of your knowledge caliber at Dell for the past
two days. No one else I've been in communication with at
Dell has been able to come close to solving this problem.
Where have you been, man? I Your information solved my
problem. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Tell me how to
contact your boss and I'll recommend you for a raise and
a promotion.
.... And, it appears you are correct about the activation
not being necessary. I followed your instructions and
received the message that my Windows has already been
activated. This is what I was beginning to suspect but
could not verify. All the user documentation that came
with the computer kept telling me I need to activate it.
Seeing it confirmed is a relief. Thank you again.
