I recently had to re-install windows XP on my PC after a terminal
crash. One of the old accounts was password protected, I have all the
documents, but cannot access the data. Is there any way of recovering
my old data.

I know the password from the old account

Thanks in advance

Dave

Yes you have to take OWNERSHIP of them. There is something in the knowledge
base that will help you with the steps. Do a search for ownership and you
should find it.

Good luck, Rich

So, what you are actually saying is that when you attempt to access the
files from the old account a specific message comes up and tells you that
you cannot. That specific message would be very useful to post here for
help. I am betting it is "Access Denied". In which case it doesn't matter
if you know the old password or not - that is likely unnecessary (and of no
use if they were also encrypted - which I doubt.)

Read *carefully* - do not just skim the page and start following steps.
There is important information there dependent on the version of Windows XP
