This is a 2 part question about retreiving lost files
during upgrade from 98SE to XP Pro #1 Where do I locate
or restore the "My Documnets" folder that was in Windows
98SE before upgrading to XP Pro I had many important
files and documents in that folder #2 Where do I locate
or restore the e-mails stored in Outlook Express that
were in Windows 98SE before upgrading to XP Pro I had
some very important e-mails stored that were very old...

Ops, whenever you upgrade or clean install that are done
to systems MS states that you must do a backup of your
files because it is not guaranteed a successful install.
I am although surprised that you lost your info. This is
what you can try, down load a file recovery utility and
install, update and run against your system and see if you
can undelete the files you need.

Good Luck

I tried a file recovery utility but am not entierly sure
where I am supposed to be looking to find the files I
need I assume it would be in C:\My Documnets but that
folder is not listed for recovery is there a specific
restore utility I should try using...

I do hope that you have a backup made before the upgrade.

It's possible that the upgrade erased your old files, in which case they
are probably truely gone forever.

It's also possible that they are still on your drive but simply not
currently being accessed as the message store for outlook express under
the new version of Windows.

The default message store for Outlook Express is not, usually, in "My
Documents", but rather in C:\Windows (often, C:\Windows\Application Data
-- but the location is quite variable).

The key point, however, is that the filetype is ".dbx", so I'd search
your entire computer for "*.dbx" files. This is probably a "hidden"
filetype, so be sure that you have enabled the search option to include
hidden files.

Hope this helps. Next time, be sure to back up everything before doing
anything as major as an operating system upgrade.
