I have an XP machine, a 98 machine and cable internet. I have the a router
and both computers and the cable modem are plugged into it. I am now using
the internet on both computers, but my computers are not recognizing each
other at all!! What do I need to check/do?

Thanks!

Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on both computers:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard

If the Wizard detects the router's shared Internet connection, tell it
to use that connection. Otherwise, tell it that the computer connects
to the Internet through a residential gateway.

If there's a firewall program (Norton, McAfee, PC-cillin, ZoneAlarm,
etc) on either computer, configure it to allow access by other
computers on the local area network. Note that some antivirus
programs, such as Norton Antivirus 2006, include firewall functions.

Check to make sure they are on the same work group and that client for
microsfot networks and file and printer sharing are installed on both
machines. If these are not installed on the machines they will not see each
other. The check for firewalls.
