I am considering buy a laptop with Windows XP Home
Edition. I have some applications on my Windows '98 that
I would like to install on Windows XP, but I have heard it
won't take or recognize some programs. The programs I am
concerned about are Act 2000, Microsoft Word, Excel and
Kodak Picture Software version 1.3, Iomegaware 2.0 and
Microsoft Office '97. Could you let me know what I can
expect? Thanks, Charlie

The great majority (but not all) of Windows 98-era programs work
just fine on Windows XP.

Word and Excel, from Office 95 onward, work in Windows XP. Your
Office 97 will be fine. The other programs I don't know. Run the
Microsoft Upgrade Advisor at

Its mainly a matter of if your PC is fast enough to handle XP. Enough RAM
and CPU. Most programs and hardware will working with XP and if needed it
will load the correct driver for you if your PC needs it.

HUH?! Did you read the question before putting fingers to keyboard?! No of
course you didn't! Your reply is completely nonsensical - what has his
system being fast enough to handle XP got to do with application
compatiblility?! Had you read the question properly you'd have seen that the
first line was "I am considering buying a laptop with Windows XP Home
Edition"...

In future read the question *PROPERLY* before posting - otherwise you just
make yourself look a complete prick!

Software doesn't require drivers! *SIGH*...
