I know this may be too soon to ask, but does anyone happen to know when
Windows 7 will officially be out on the market to buy as in computers and
software? Thanks for helping out!

No official announcement, as the next milestone -Release Candidate
is not yet available. There are a lot of Web technology news sites that
track/monitor Seven's development and report on it.

No, nobody knows, because it hasn't been announced yet. Probably
nobody at Microsoft knows for sure either, because it depends on what
the testing currently going on finds.

However, it's widely expected to be early next year.

"Those who say cannot know and those who know cannot say."

That being said, expect Win7 to be released sometime during 3Q09, in time
for holiday sales.

At first glance, my old eyes missed the tail on the "Q" and I thought,
"Even for Microsoft, 1000 years is a bit too long for a development cycle."

Windows NT4 = Version 4
Windows 2000 = version 5
Windows XP = version 5.1
Windows Vista = version 6
<whatever> = version 7

Run 'winver' in a command prompt.
Seems George knows about versioning of NT-based versions of Windows.

Actually the last time I did a winver in Windows 7 it reported back as 6.1.

Windows 7 hasn't been released and doesn't exist yet. What you looked
at was a beta test version of Windows 7, not Windows 7 itself.

I of course can't guarantee that they will change this when they
release Windows 7, but I would certainly expect them to.
