I've got AD setup on a 2003 Box which is also the Domain Controller in the domain. Now i've recently got another 2000 server and would like that to be like a Backup to the main 2003 DC

During AD installation wizard on the 2000 server, I've got 2 option

1. Domain controller for a new domai
2. Additional domain controller for an existing domai

Which option should i choose bear in mind that i just want to add this server as a backup to the main 2003 AD/DC on the network

Also i had an NT4 which i wanted to make as a Backup Domain Controller to the 2003 box and during setup i choose the server type as BDC but when it gets to locating the main Domain name, it says unable to locate the name of the domain. And i've entered the Admin name and password in the box provided including the domain name

So i was wondering maybe i entered the domain name wrongly. Domain name is MICROSYSTEM, which i entered in the domain name.

Choose number two.
In AD there is no such thing as Primary/Backup (PDC/BDC) domain controllers,
all DCs are equal except the FSMO roles which can only be on one machine at
a time. But you can transfer the FSMOs to other DCs in your domain and they
don't need to be all on the same box.
Let us know if you want more details on FSMOs, there are some good KBs about
placement etc...

/Jimmy
