I installed Windows 2000 on one machine and now want to
move that hard drive to another machine, but it will not
boot up after I move the drive to the other machine. Why?

If the 2 PC's do not have exactly identical hardware, there is
only a small change you can use the harddisk in the other PC.
Try a safe boot: hit the F8 in the very early stage of booting,
and select: Safe Mode
If that works, you need to find the proper hardware drivers for
that PC (e.g video, audio, network).

Do this:
- Put the disk back into the old machine.
- Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager
- Replace the current driver for the IDE Master Controller
with the generic Microsoft driver.
- Put the disk into the new machine.

There is a 90% chance that the installation will fire up.
Plug & Play will now resolve the remaining differences.
