windows 2000 unexpected restart

My comp, seems to restart quite often for no apparent reason whatsoever?! It
is patched to the latest patches and ive also run virus check on it but it
hasnt found anything- has anybody got any ideas what is causing this and how
to solve it?

Besides updating windows and virus check, look for a good spy-ware program
(spyware blaster i.e) and run it.
Another problem could be adware, a good check is Ad-aware from lavasoft.

BTW, did you install new hardware or software lately?

If this is all OK now, there might be a problem with the RAM memory,
download memtest86, install it on a floppy, boot your computer with it and
run an extensive test.
Then chech with the manufacturer of your hard disk. They usually have a
toool/utility to test de the hard drive. Use it and find out if this is a
problem or not.

Finally, chech if your system isn't overheating. Download
MotherBoardMonitot (mbm5) and have a close look at the temperatures of your
CPU, MoBo, auxiliary componants, hard disk etc. have a close look at the
various voltage measurements and compare with the MoBo manual, or Mfg site.
maybe ther is a power Supply problem.
