kindly guide me on general steps to find the root cause(any source) for
server hanging

That's a very broad request. Please narrow down the possibilities by
providing the following information:

1. Does the hang occur upon boot or when the server is running?
2. Does the hang occur at the same approximate time of day or night?
3. Do you notice any performance degradation before it hangs?
4. When the hang occurs, do you have mouse control? Do the NumLock or
CapsLock keys still toggle their respective lights on the keyboard?

Any additional pertinent information you can provide may also be helpful
such as frequency, recent changes including hardware or software additions,
driver updates, etc.

Dear Mr.Kevin McNiel,
1. server does not hang at boot time.
2. the frequency of hanging is unknown it ranges form 4hrs to 72hrs.
3. Their is no performance degradation before hanging.
4. No mouse control or keyboard numlock control and also tried ping to the
server it does not ping.

This server hardware is HP Prolaint DL 380g3 server with 3.02ghz xeon
processor and 1gb ram and smart array 5i controller with single 36gb hot swap
scsi hdd. performed hardware diags through offline hp diags no trouble found
after running the same for 48 hrs.

Kindly help us in identify root cause of the server hanging problem.
Thanks in advance

If the server totally locks, then from my experience, the problem is usually
hardware related. I understand that you have run hardware diagnostics on the
server, but since the problem is intermittent, unless the problem happens
while the diagnostic program is running, then it may not be identified.
Confirm that there are no cooling issues with the server (failing fans,
etc.).

Since you experience no performance degradation before the hang, there does
not appear to be a memory leak.

What applications run on the server? Is there any sort of pattern when the
hangs occur (general time of day, specific activity on the server, etc.)?
Based on the speed of the processor, this appears to be a fairly new server.
How long after you got it did the hangs begin? If it was after you had the
server for a period of time, do you recall any changes made just before the
problem began?

Any additional details you can provide would be helpful.
