My mate put a password on my PC (he reckons he didn't)
but now I can't get it, even when I try typing in
administrator it says worng password - how do I fix thsi
without formatting?

If you have access to the PC you can reset the administrator password with a
lot of utilities you can find on Google.

Do a search for "cd041205.iso" and it will give you a link to a page where
you can download this file. It is a boot CD that will allow you to unlock
the admin account if needed and will also let you reset the password to
blank.

I did a search and it only come up with one item. When I
clicked on the download link it it can't find it - could
you please email or possibly give me a working download
link - i will be forever greatful.

So you gave your one and only set of car keys to your
mate, and when he mislaid them you got stuck.

Now replace "car keys" with "admin account", then ask
yourself why you shouldn't create a second admin account
immediately to protect yourself against such awkward
mishaps.

To get you out of your predicament, boot with a boot
disk from here, then set the admin password to a blank:

It's scary stuff but it works.
