Last week , my laptop's hard drive died. I did not have any tape or
disk backup solution... However, last month a friend told me about a
free internet-based backup solution. I tried the product and it worked
well. I replaced my dead hard drive by a new one, re-installed Windows
XP and restored my 1.4 GB personal backup from the intenet!

This product is a life saver for those like me that does not have tape
backup devices!
I'ts free and contains no spyware.

Whoo Whoo thanks for giving us all your data.
We will be searching all your files for your passwords and bank account
information.

You will never catch me doing what you did. LOL

Free, maybe. But, how do you know there's no spyware? You think
they tell you?
Just curious. How's the security here? Or speed? For less than a
buck a gig you can buy external HD in anything from 40 to 1,000.
That is a far safer and more reliable backup method, and one you
can use in a rotating "grandfather" mode to an off-site
location.

Sure hope you didn't upload anything confidential. If you did,
it is all over the world by now.

Do I smell "blackmail/extortion/dataloss" in that internet
scheme?

There's a little link at the bottom of the main page. It says "terms."

One of those terms is that you've agreed that the spam they send you, on
their own behalf and on the behalf of third parties, is not spam. And if
you don't want their spam, you may feel free to close your account.

One more interesting item is this:

"Certain third party code may be provided with the Software."

Berkeley gives you two gigabytes for free. You could've backed up your
data to gmail with about as much safety and far less intrusion. But why
didn't you just back up manually to a couple of CDs? It's a pain in the
tuchis, but isn't your data worth it?

I don't have a paranoia about privacy, but this just doesn't seem like a
very good idea to me.
