You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 2

After installing SP2 I lost all my Dial-up accounts. I'm
not able to connect to the internet. Using the EventViewer
I've found out that the service "Remote Access Connection
Manager" isn't starting up at boottime. A manual start
replies in: "Error 5 - Access denied". Just great!
Eventually I decided to uninstall SP2, wrong, some file is
missing or corrupted, so uninstalling is not possible.
Anyone a clue where to hack te registry to correct the
settings of my services? I'm using XP Home-edition.
