Window XP Pro Setup Error

I am installing windows xp pro on an older laptop and when it gets to
29 minutes "copying files ..." It puts an error on the screen that it
needs the windows xp disk. When I go to browse for it it says the cd
drive has an error and it dosent detevt any thing in the drive.

The computer is a Toshibia Satellite 1755
It came with Windows ME(too many bugs/internal viruses)

The screen was broke so I took it off

I was wondering why windows was erroring and what I could do to fix it?
 
sounds like a bad cd or a read error

try copying the setup files (I386) to the laptop first
