Nothing wrong with hard drive or mother board. I can
format the drive and partition the drive and load DOS if
i choose to. But during the completion of the install of
win xp home this message below appears.

Log file content:
Error sxs.dll syntax in manifest or policy file d:\i386
\asms\10100\windows\gdiplus\gdip\us.man on line 4

Asms A component file does no match the verification
information present in the component manifest.

One of the component could not be installed

A component does not match the verification info present
in the component manifest.

Is there a fix out there for this. Help :(

Loading DOS is not a valid test of a good/bad hard drive.

First you can only use 2GB of the drive in the process.

Secondly, you don't even USE the 2GB of space, just a few measly megabytes
in comparision to the 1.5GB of actual used space when you install XP.

Lastly, Windows XP is more particular than any other previous Windows OS
concerning bad hardware. If you have a bad component (Memory, Hard Drive or
Motherboard) it will sniff it out and fail to install. Most cases seem to
center around bad memory.

Looking further into what you have given leaves me to believe either you
have a bad CD (bad burn or bad original) or you have a bad CD Drive. They
mention something at the very end of this thread you may want to try.

Good Luck to you.
