While I was watching a movie online, my laptop stop responding. I have to
turn it off by pressing down the power button. When I try to turn it back on,
window xp couldn't load , the screen only show a black screen. I have no
choices but only to do a full restore to my computer which is really a time
consuming and destroy all my files. It already happened to me twice. Please
help me solve this problem?

In the absence of any error message it is difficult to identify what
the problem might be.

I suspect that it is something of a hardware issue, but even then you
should see *something* on the screen when you try to start it up, even
if it is only the laptop/BIOS manufacturer's logo and/or the Power On
Self Test details.

You might want to invest in a external (USB or Firewire) hard drive
and a disk imaging program such as Aconis True Image. That way you
can create a current backup of image of your hard drive every few
days, and when there is a problem such as you describe you can restore
that image instead of using the "system recovery" procedure provided
by your laptop's manufacturer.

Good luck

When you reboot after one of those crashes how far does it boot? Do you get
the bios info right at the start? Do you get the XP loading screen? at what
point does it stop responding? Have you tried F8 at the start and gone
through the options?

Since the Windoze eXPerience is prone to crash and burn like this, the only
really long term solution is to look at running a more robust operating
system. You can find a large selection of possible alternatives here:

LOL. I have an older Toshiba 3000 notebook that I use for network
troubleshooting. I dual boot Linux and XP. With some distros of Linux the
built in wireless doesn't work or is flakey and crashes the machine. With
some distros watching a DVD crashes the machine. A good example is fedora.
FC4 installed just fine. The wireless worked great. FC5 will work sometimes
but it's very erratic. It always works if I use KDE but with gnome it often
drops the connection and locks up when I try to reconnect. With Suse 10 the
wireless worked great but inserting a DVD would lock the system up. With XP
I installed XP Pro with SP2. Everything works great. It has never locked up
once. The point of all this is that all OS's sometimes crash and burn. Linux
and Windows both have advantages and disadvantages. Telling everyone to
switch to Linux won't solve every or even most problems.

It did boot pass the bios info then the screen turn black. It didn't get to
the Xp loading screen. How do I try F8 at the start? How do I boot in safe
mode, it ask me to type in command , I don't know what command to type

Power up the machine, tap the F8 key several time to enter the
stattup menu, choose an option [safe mode, last known good]
