When starting up, I reciece the Dell logo screen then the
Windows XP screen, then I have a long delay before the
user screen. My monito also seems like it will go into
sleep mode for a second then the user sceen comes up.
This seems like it is getting worse. Is it my video card,
if so how do I know if there is damage to it before it
goes out completely.

I have already defrage'd, got rid of spy-ware, and updated
aganist virus, also performed a windows repair from the CD.

The reason for your monitor to twitch between the XP logo
and the user screen, is that Windows is switching the
screen resolution at that point....nothing to worry
about ! Certainly not a problem on your videocard...

Does Event Viewer offer any clues as to the cause?

Make a note of the precise text of any error message. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID: and Source Description are important.
