Which 2 other emails do you use? There are two types (for the purposes of
this discussion) of email in the world: local client and web-based.
Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and Outlook are local clients (they run on
your computer); Hotmail and Yahoo Mail are web-based. You will not lose
anything in your Web-based accounts, because they don't reside on your
computer, they reside on a server somewhere else. You probably will not
lose any local data if you set up Windows Mail because even if you
uninstalled a local email client, the data store folder would stay in place.
On my new Vista machine, Windows Mail did not pop up as it did on yours. I
set it up and then imported my data from my Windows XP machine's Outlook
..pst file. I did not lose anything; I could still run my old Outlook or
Outlook Express, with my same old data in place. Then I found a better way,
thanks to the wizards on this newsgroup:
If you are wanting to run your Web-based accounts on a local client, the
best way is to download and install Windows Live Mail. It is much better
than Windows Mail; you can run as many accounts as you want.
Bottom line is you must be careful and know what you are doing when you try
to import/export email data; it's hard to cover all the little problems and
techniques in a brief message. If you know anyone nearby who is good on
computers that can assist I would recommend that method.
I hope this helps you.
