I just upgraded to winxp pro from winxp home. I now have this file -
$win_NT$,~BT - in explorer. Can I delete it? What is it? Thanks Charlie

Hi,

Looks like a backup folder of some sort. I would say that you should be
certain that you do not wish to restroe anything from the prior installation
before deleting it.

Charles,

The $win_nt$.~bt is a temporary folder used during the installation of
Windows XP to hold the boot specific files. Since it sounds like Windows
XP installed fine, you can delete this folder. (and the associated
$win_nt$.~ls folder if it is still there as well)

That did it Mike. Thanks a lot. Sometimes the desire to keep a clean
computer can get you into trouble. Good advice helps. Charlie

Charles,

No problem at all. I completely agree about keeping a clean system. If
you are willing to take a personal recommendation, go out and grab either
Ad Aware or my personal favorite, SpyBotSD and run them against the
computer as well. I was shocked at how much spyware was on my home system
when I first ran it. I cleaned out a bunch of monitoring software and
cookies that really made a difference in the system performance.
