ahoy hoy

I just purchased a p4 2.4ghz with a intel 865PERL
motherboard and a 120gb SATA seagate hdd (i havnt had
much exp with SATA). I need to install windows 98 on this
machine. The drive makes a wierd noise on the initial
start up 1 i have never heard done by an IDE drive, is
this nomral? and also i load up the boot disk, try to run
fdisk and it says no physical drives found.

any help would be much appreciated.
thx.

Glen,

Intel motherboards/Bios have a small problem with SATA drives in that they
do not wait long enough for the drive to spin up and tell they're specs.

After the PC initially tries to boot quickly do a warm re-boot,
(ctrl-alt-delete). This will give the drive enough time to spin up and on
the second boot report in with his details so that he's recognized.

The above should work unless you have the drive on a PCI card instead of
being plugged into the on-board SATA connector on the motherboard.

Mark.
