Hi all, I hope somebody can help me with this problem:

I have 3 computers one with XP Home and the two others
with win2000. All of them are connected to a Linksys
router. I have run the network setup wizard and placed
them in the "Workgroup". The computers with the win2000
can view between them just fine but when trying to view
between the 2000 and the XP Home edition some days it
works fine, but mostly the computer running XP gives me
this message:
"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the admin
of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is unavailable."
While the win2000 exclaim: "\\(xx) is not accessible. The
network path was not found""

- And I am the administrator in all the computers!! (I
sign in before working on each computer with a password).

I don't use any firewalls. The access to the Internet from
the 3 computers is OK. I also tried to disconnecting one
of the win2000 computers when trying the connection
between the two others but this didn't help.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advanced.

You are likely describing a Master Browser problem, but:

1. Synchronize the username and passwords on all machines. In other
words, all the usernames with passwords (no blank or empty passwords
used) on Computer A, can be found as usernames and passwords on
Computers B & C. And vice-versa.

2. Disable the Computer Browser service on the XP machine, unless it
is left on 24/7

3. While not necessary, enable the Guest Account on all Machines.

4. It does not sound like a firewall issue, but check the XP machine
in particular to see if the native ICF firewall is enabled under the
network adapter properties, Advanced tab. In addition, be aware that
some antivirus softwares install a firewall component by default.
PC-Illan is one notable example. Just check that no firewall issues
are involved.

There are technicly more elegant ways to solve this, but this as a
newsgroup post will get your where you want to be.
