I'm in the process of updating WinMe to Win XP Home. The installation has
seemed to go very well but when I attempt a restart (without the XP
installation disk loaded) I receive a message "Non-System disk or disk error.
Replace and press any key." When I install the XP installation disk the
startup begins. I can remove the XP immediately and the startup continues OK
-
Apparently the system doesn't recognize the Hard Disk as a 'boot' disk.
All hardware checks OK and none of the system startup information seems out
of line.

What am I missing? Any ideas?

My guess is that the Master Boot Record on your hard drive was not properly
configured for XP.

Please do the following and see how you do!

Starting the Windows Recovery Console
To start the Windows Recovery Console, use one of the following methods: •
Use the Windows Setup floppy disks or the Windows CD-ROM to start your
computer. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10 or press 'R" to repair.

Login to your Windows XP installation.

Try one, or both of the following commands:

At the command prompt: type "fixmbr", then press "ENTER" on the keyboard.
At the command prompt: type "fixmbr", then press "ENTER" on the keyboard.

ALSO: Ensure that your BIOS has selected the "HARD DRIVE", or "HD#", as the
primary boot device.

Let us know if it works, and/or if you have any other questions.
