Hi,

Is it possible to setup XP Professional to remove the
start menu and task bar completely for a specific user?

I am trying to create a user account that can only use
Internet Explorer. I have tried the Kiosk Mode of IE but
this does not allow navigation buttons and I need these
for the specific appliation I have for it.

Any thoughts on how I can do this?

Thanks in advance,

Robin.

This is totally unsupported, but seems to work. ALL of the normal warnings about
using regedit are in force for this suggestion. And do be concerned about not having
explorer.exe run as other startup functions will also not run at boot time.

Open regedit.exe
navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
add a string value
"shell"="iexplore.exe"

You may have to copy the iexplore.exe to the windows folder from you \Program
Files\Internet Explorer folder.

Good luck.

Many thanks for that!

I understand about the unsupported bit and except
responsibility for this!

Thanks again for the help.

Robin.
