SP1 is unsupported, behind and is missing all the patches and upgrades
between it and SP2's release. SP2 is a rollup of updates/patches from SP1
until SP2's release as well as many new features and updates not included in
the patches themselves.

You *should* have SP2 - since it was released in 2004. SP3 is slated for
next year. Your problem with your drive is unlikely to be an SP2 issue.
More than likely updating the USB (motherboard chipset) as well as other
hardware drivers on your machines will remedy any issues you are seeing *if*
they are not hardware issues.
