I don't even know where to begin to explain this problem it's been
driving me nuts since I bought this computer, I don't think it's an XP
problem, I think it's hardware but if anyone can help me I would be
appreciative.

When I do a fresh install of WinXP, going through the comand prompt, it
takes it 10-15min to install all those little drivers I need. But if I
installed XP on another way older computer this same process only takes
maybe 1min. So once I get past those 10-15min, once it starts copying
it usually fails. When I finally get it to install after about a dozen
tries, it seems to run fine and fast like it should, but when I play
games, or really push it, it freezes, are these problems connected or
did I just get a lemon? So like I said I think it's a hardware problem,
I've tried switching video cards, I've tried just using one of the
rams, but maybe both are bad? I dunno. Can anyone help out? Thanks!

WhittakerR,
I think you have made too many assumptions about your computer. What is the
configuration of this computer on which it takes 15 min to install xp and
what is the configuration of the computer on which it just takes about a
minute to install the same??
Truly speaking i figure you are talking about some other installation here
and not the windows xp setup ie installing the Operating System. The reason i
say this is because on the best possible hardware configuration available for
the PC in the market today it takes about 15-20 min to completely install
Windows XP SP2. Therefore i would really want to know the configuration of
the system that does this in 1 minute!!

My good computer is something like, 2ghz, 768mb RAM, etc. while the
other one is only 433mhz,96mb ram. So the "good" computer takes 15min
or so to complete first part of the installation, copying all the
required drivers and such so it can start to install XP, meanwhile the
same process on the little 433mhz, flies through it and only takes
about a minute before I can start installing XP and it flies through
that too, mean while the other computer will still be loading drivers.

Hi yogi
I think he meant the loading of the windows pre-install files.
Although there is little anyone can do without more information on his
hardware
setup.
Chas

I can't give you much cause my computer go figure is down, but I looked
into my hardware, its all supported by XP as far as I can tell from
Windows Catalog, the mother board is Nvidia geforce2 NF7-S, graphics
card Nvidia gforce4 440mx, sound etc is intergrated with the mother
board, what else do you need to know I'll see what I can get for you.

Correct, I was talking about windows pre-install files.

Well my computer is formated now, but when I try to reinstall it
windowsxp, there is a slow installation of the pre-installation files
and then the other files. Now I cant even seem to get it to install at
all, usually blue screens didn't do that before, but it was still slow
before, so gotta be some hardware kind of problem I guess. And the
second problem when I could get it to install, was the computer would
freeze when I pushed it, playing games or so.

Chas,
I think why he asked about what all hardware information i want is because
i asked for it. What we are talking about here has anything to do with the CD
drive. You are right he is talking about the boot process and not the
installation. My previous post was to clarify that.

yogi

Hi yogi
From what i gather he is talking about the Installation of Windows
not boot up
Perhaps WhittakerR could clarify that?
Chas

Chas,
Have you ever seen (or heard of for that matter) a Windows XP installation
complete in "ONE MINUTE"??

That would be like breaking all possible records dont you think??

Just a thought

"" Pre-Install files"" Take around 1 minute on a fast machine.
that's what he was talking about.
Chas

Chas,
"Pre-Install files Take around 1 minute on a fast machine.
that's what he was talking about."

Yes you are right preinstallation files do take about 1 minute to install on
a FAST MACHINE. Would you like to guess which one is the faster machine here??

Again just a thought

I was talking about windows installation, not windows booting. The
windows pre-installation only took a minute on the slow machine too.

Anyway so thanks, I tried putting in another CD drive, that worked for
the speed issue, now it blue screens though, seem like its a no win
situation. I couldn't tell you what the blue screen error is cause it
usually happens at different times with different messages, usually
telling to check for hd corruption, which I do and there isn't
anything, I've even tried other HD and same problem so I dunno.
