Was upgrading my system P3 800 with 128 ram, cleaned hard
drive reformated with win xp home edition cd, now in loop
saying "setup restarting". have changed hard drive twice
and still get the same message.
Any ideas would be welcome

You have a minimal amount of RAM, but if you ran the upgrade
advisor and the system passed it should install.

Have you removed any unessential hardware before beginning
the install? Removing printers, scanners, extra PCI cards
can be helpful during the installation process.

Brian - I hope that your computer is Ok...I did what you did, and I damaged
the mother board.

Thanks Jim,
Run upgrade advisor and it passed also have NO other
hardware connected, put another Hard drive with Win98 and
all worked well.

Presuming you set it booting the CD in order to run setup from that, I
would, when it first reboots, go into BIOS setup and put the boot order
to HD first. A bit of a long shot, but it sounds as if it is not
giving you the 'confirm booting from CD' and is going and rebooting from
it regardless
