I have been having a difficult time installing WinXP Pro
on a variety of hard drives with the two new copies I
recently purchased. I get SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
errors. Also on two occasions I finally got XP installed,
ran the updates and then I started to get disk failures.
truncated and crosslinked files. It would start with one
or two and then reboot and do a check disk and find 10-15
more each time - saying it repaired them, finally geting
to the point where it would not boot at all. I reformatted
the drives both as FAT32 and subsequently as NTFS with the
same failures. The two drives are WD 60GB 7200 drives and
were working fine before this reformat. It also fails
similarly on a new WD 120GB 7200 drive.

For what it is worth, I have an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mother
board and 512 RAM. It fails on two similar boards in two
different computers.

I did manage to install WinME on one of the 60GB drives,
but when I try to install XP on the second 60 GB slave
drive, it fails both when starting from ME and when
starting as a boot vollume.

Anybody got any ideas?

Use the following procedure to install Windows XP:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

7. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

8. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:
