I have some WinXP pro machines that are part of a NT4
domain. Users are required to login the domain but
obviously do not have admin rights. Some of my users need
to be able to edit certai hardware like serial port
settings, FIFO buffers, etc. How can I give these users
this acess without providing admin rights? I do not have
active directory and I don't see anything in local
security policies. Can anyone point in the right
direction>

Greetings --

They should be able to do what they need if your add their domain
accounts to their workstations' local Power User group. If that's not
sufficient, you will have no other option other than to add their
domain accounts to the local administrator group.

Another option is to use custom .ADM templates. I just downloaded an .ADM
template from Novell's Web site the other day. These .ADM templates are
custom settings you can add to the Group Policy editor; however, it does
take some research. Are you using domain or local group policies?

Thanks for the info. I added the domain account to the local Power Users
grouping. The user is able to modify the COM port settings except for the
ADVANCED button that takes them to the FIFO settings. Is there any other way
I can let the user into the FIFO settings?
