I use Win XP Home on my computer.
I computer repair person replaced Win 98SE on my dad's computer with Win XP
Pro.
Does Pro have any real advantages over Home for the average computer user.
Or did the repair person load Pro because he can charge more ?

For the typical user no,if youre going to program and/or use in a large user
group pro has encryption add-ons and group policy add-ons.

Pro has advantages, but not for your average home user. If your dad likes
to tweak and play with settings or is heavy into the networking aspect of
the OS - your extra $100 was well spent - if not - likely someone wanted
more money.

No: it includes a number of items of extra facilities, mainly needed in
business networks.
See http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_home_pro.asp
for the list of things that are in Pro only. In addition Pro will
support ten simultaneous connections in a network - Home only five

Probably
