win xp home start's up but doesn't display anything

Hi there
I installed automatic updates but it just messed up the system! It does start up but it doesn't display anything - i can browse the content of the second computer but i can't see anything - the monitor display is black as night - what can i do ? Normal startup is only working, service startup hangs and nothing I can do...
 
Can you boot in safe mode?
Did you use winupdate to update drivers?
