My EULA says that I can only have one installation of the software on my
computer. I want to install the same copy of software on another hard
drive on the same computer to have a backup installation in case one hard
drive fails. Would this be a violation of the EULA? There was also
something about installing the same to a laptop as well as on your
computer.

How about installing the same copy of Windows on a virtual machine
installed on the original installation of the operating system?

I just read somewhere that you can have any number of installations if its
on the same computer.

The guy at the MS activation told me I could only have two installations on
the same PC.

Seems like there is some grey area on the subject. Anyone know the facts?

I have a better solution for you: disk imaging. Not only will you have a
complete backup of your installation, you can store the image offline
(e.g., an external hard disk) against the day your computer is damaged,
stolen or unbootable.

Disk imaging has many other advantages. You'll wonder how you lived
without it.

Read your EULA again closely, you seem to have missed important parts.
"There was also something about installing the same to a laptop as
well as on your
computer."
Not in any version of Microsoft Windows.
Although some retail versions of Microsoft Office allow for that.

For further clarification, contact Microsoft licensing and possibly a
lawyer specializing in software licensing law.
